SUMMARY:Monthly Sandwich Blitz for JOMM
DESCRIPTION:Join Bay Bridge in making sandwiches for Just One More Ministry\, in Glendale. JOMM rescues excess food from area restaurants\, food suppliers and caterers and repackages it for shelters\, food pantries and community members in need. Right now\, JOMM needs bagged sandwiches as these lunches are easy to distribute with minimal contact. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDue to the overwhelmingly positive response from our MLK Sandwich Blitz\, Bay Bridge would like to offer this as a monthly service opportunity.  Help Bay Bridge and JOMM food bank by making sandwiches for those experiencing food insecurities.  So many adults and children are in need of food now more than ever!  JOMM distributes sandwiches as a low barrier way for people to access food – no questions asked.  JOMM has seen dramatic increases in demand over the last year\, so your contributions will serve an immediate need.  A few guidelines: \n\n\nWhite bread (preferred)\, ham or turkey\, and cheese (cheddar\, American\, provolone). No condiments(mayo/mustard) to prevent sandwiches from becoming soggy. \n\n\nIndividually package sandwiches in a plastic bag or wrap in waxed paper sealed with tape. PLEASE DATE AND LABEL EACH SANDWICH with what type it is. Sandwiches can be make ahead of time and frozen. Two loaves of bread makes approximately 20 sandwiches. \n\n\nPlease thoroughly clean all surfaces\, wash hands\, pull back hair\, and preferably wear a cap prior to food preparation. Please defer your participation if anyone in your household is not feeling well. \n\n\nThere will be a little white truck with a Bay Bridge sign on it parked at School House Park across from the Whitefish Bay Public Library for drop off the first WEDNESDAY OF EVERY MONTH from 9-10am. Please follow COVID safe practices by wearing a mask\,  physically distancing and not congregating\, and staying home if you are not feeling well. Our goal is to donate 1\,000 sandwiches every month to JOMM. We believe our community can achieve this with your help! \nPlease review the available slots here to sign up. Thank you! \n“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is\, what are you doing for others?” – Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr.

The monumental wall mural titled\, Our Time Together\, includes references to Milwaukee havens’: Gee’s Clippers\, Coffee Makes You Black\, and the Wisconsin Black Historical Society\, as well as photographs from the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. \nIn addition to the docent-led tour\, your ticket includes the opportunity to explore the galleries and exhibits throughout the museum with an additional Community Dialogue pass for a return visit for two adults and four children (17 and under). \nTickets for this special event are $16\, and Bay Bridge is sponsoring $6 of each ticket. SUMMARY:Depolarizing Conversations on Race w/ Bahá'í-inspired Racial Healing Series
DESCRIPTION:Our “presentation” on Saturday February 12th at 4:30PT.6:30CT/7:30ET will be a hands-on workshop!\nPre-registration is required! Click HERE to register. \nDepolarizing Conversations About Race is a skills workshop for those difficult but necessary conversations about race. It seeks to improve the culture of conversations about race and provide a constructive alternative to the polarized and judgmental exchanges that dominate our current discourse. \nIf You Take This Workshop\, You Will Be: \n\nBetter at listening to people who have differing views on race and public policy\, so they feel heard.\nMore skilled in expressing views in a way that the other person can hear you.\nMore able to find common ground when it is present.\n\nTestimonial: “I have attended an entire workshop and can tell you that the conversational skills you will learn can be applied to nearly any difficult conversation or relationship. Furthermore\, you will be engaging with people from across the country who also want to communicate more constructively about race.” \nADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  REGISTER HERE After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nBraver Angels created this workshop to help participants develop more skills for listening to others and expressing their own views on race in ways that lead to more productive conversations across differences. \n“Conversations about race are often dysfunctional and judgmental\, descending into “Just listen to me explain racism to you” and “Don’t call me a racist!” \nThe vast majority of  people are firmly against racism as they define it\, but they battle over what it means—for example\, systemic versus personal—and about whether racism is mostly an evil of the past versus an ongoing scourge. They split over framing our country’s history as fundamentally compromised by racism versus its ideals still standing to light the way forward. \nWhen it comes to policy solutions\, many  people have trouble sustaining conversations on issues such as affirmative action\, police reform\, reparations\, and removing statues. Conversations flare up and shut down\, relationships become strained\, and a national path forward on race becomes harder to envision. We need to change the culture of conversations about race and public policy among  Americans\, finding alternatives to the polarized and judgmental nature of these exchanges. “

SUMMARY:Book Discussion "Black Birds in the Sky: The Story and Legacy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre"
DESCRIPTION:“Black Birds in the Sky:  The Story and Legacy of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre” \nA searing new work of nonfiction from award-winning author Brandy Colbert about the history and legacy of one of the most deadly and destructive acts of racial violence in American history: the Tulsa Race Massacre. \nIn the early morning of June 1\, 1921\, a white mob marched across the train tracks in Tulsa\, Oklahoma\, and into its predominantly Black Greenwood District—a thriving\, affluent neighborhood known as America’s Black Wall Street. They brought with them firearms\, gasoline\, and explosives. \nIn a few short hours\, they’d razed thirty-five square blocks to the ground\, leaving hundreds dead. The Tulsa Race Massacre is one of the most devastating acts of racial violence in US history. But how did it come to pass? What exactly happened? And why are the events unknown to so many of us today? \nThese are the questions that award-winning author Brandy Colbert seeks to answer in this unflinching nonfiction account of the Tulsa Race Massacre. ” \nFree and Open to the public – email to RSVP (e.rusch386@gmail.com)

SUMMARY:When Claude Got Shot Film Panel Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Claude Motley thought he’d beaten the odds: a business owner who moved his family from the violence of Milwaukee to the suburbs of Charlotte. Yet there he is on a trip home for a high school reunion: black male victim\, 43\, shot in the face during a carjacking. Two nights later\, Claude’s assailant tries to rob nurse Victoria Davison\, but she has a gun and shoots him during the struggle. A rush of guilt overcomes her as she overhears the paramedics – the boy she shot\, Nathan King\, is only 15 years old. \nNathan’s parents are devastated. They’ve done all the right things\, including sending their son to a highly ranked suburban school. Now he’s charged with multiple crimes\, and\, worse yet\, he’s paralyzed waist down. \nIn a single weekend\, three African-American families confront a harsh reality: there’s no escape from gun violence. Our film follows each of their lives through the criminal justice system and on the journey to physical and emotional healing. \nYou will receive a link to view the film on your own time one week prior to January 20. On January 20 at 7pm\, a film panel of specialists from Children’s\, Medical College of Wisconsin\, Froedert\, and Moms Demand Action will join featured film subjects Claude Motley and Victoria Adams for a frank & authentic (virtual ) discussion of gun violence & healing and why it matters to Whitefish Bay\, Milwaukee and our greater community. \n  \nRegistration Link – CLICK HERE
