Advocating for Change in DPI’s Equity Reporting

Every five years our school districts provide the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) with an equity update, and the next update is due next year. Recently Bay Bridge together with Whitefish Bay’s Parents Advocating for Cultural Equality and Educational Excellence (PACE3) has been meeting with Parents and Allies Supporting Equity (PASE), a group of parents from suburban Milwaukee communities and small towns in southeastern Wisconsin. Senator Lena Taylor has facilitated meetings between PASE and DPI to provide feedback on the equity reports. Based on feedback from parents, DPI has proposed changes to the rules for discrimination complaints. The changes went to the governor’s desk, and he signed to approve those changes. The changes will now go to the legislators for approval. PASE meets on the third Saturday morning each month.

If you would like to join the meeting or find out more about this work, email baybridgewisconsin@gmail.com and put PASE in the subject line.
